About #Zeitgeist

What is #Zeitgeist?

We are students and recent graduates with an interest in current global issues. #Zeitgeist was created to be a ‘pop up’ interactive platform for sharing the ideas and news that we think are interesting and relevant. Throughout 2015, we strive to create an independent source of analyses and provide thought-provoking ideas on issues we care about. #Zeitgeist will be committed to, during this one year ‘pop up’, voicing a wide-range of political views and stimulating informed and open discussion.

The Story

#Zeitgeist came into existence on a long car journey from the Netherlands to Brussels, when I went to visit the European Commission. A lot of names and ideas were in contention, but eventually I came up with this: a one year experiment where we could talk and read about topics that interest us.

Zeitgeist
The defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time. – Oxford Dictionaries

#Zeitgeist was the perfect name because it distinguishes our generation and situates it within our time in history, which is why there is a hashtag. It has been terrific setting this up and it will be exciting to share this throughout the year with everyone who is willing to get involved – or already is.

Thank you for taking the time to find out what #Zeitgeist is!
Leah
